Laundry Renovations - The Overlooked Room

Why It Needs Attention

For those who have a big family, you do your laundry many times each week. Depending on how many kids you have, you probably put a load on each day like most of us. Will you leave the laundry area as a neglected space when it works so hard to you give clean, fresh clothes for everyone?

Perhaps it's time you made an effort to make it desirable, too. After all, it’s still part of your house, right?

What to Renovate?

Once you’ve made the decision to do a makeover on your laundry area, here are a few things you might want to consider when making choices for this room:

1. Make it a Functional Space

Let’s face it. Some of us store a lot of things in the laundry area. How do you want the space to function? Do you want it to be solely for doing the laundry, or do you also keep things here, like dog food and other stuff? Making it a multi-functional space doesn’t make it less glamorous. Just think about what you want to do with the area.

2. What’s your Laundry Technique

As you think about renovating, ask yourself as well, how do you do the laundry? If you’re the type of person who does things standing up and keeps busy, a countertop would be great. But if you also fold and iron in that room, then a fold out ironing board option might be included. A double sink if you like to soak items, and think about a front loader that you can attach to the wall if you don't like to bend.

3. Replace Taps and Spouts

Updating taps and spouts are a good way to do a mini makeover in your laundry. Since you already have a plumber there to change taps and spouts you might want to update areas that may require plumbing such as drains etc.

4. Get the Right Machine

And of course, your washing machine is your best friend in this busy place. Think about what specific type you are using. Are you using a top loader, front loader, or a wash and dry combo unit? Not only will it dictate how else you design the space, but how you budget your finances.

Nowadays, just a functional laundry space isn’t enough. It also needs to be visually pleasing and organised. After all, when you have a neat-looking space, work doesn’t feel like work anymore!
